The Museum Cafe is located at the ground floor of the Ayala Museum at Greenbelt 3, Makati Avenue. It has a pleasant, modern-minimalist ambiance and is presented as an extension of the museum cum art gallery. On a weekday evening its pleasantly uncrowded.

spring rollsspring rollsThe Museum Cafe serves what is popularly called “Asian fusion” , a variety of dishes influenced by various Asian cuisines, predominantly Chinese and Southeast Asian. We started with Fried Spring Rolls and Honey Duck Rolls as appetizers. The spring rolls were good, hot and crispy with ground pork and shrimp filling, dipped in a sweet chili sauce. The Honey Duck was unexceptional, a fancy name for chopped roast duck and veggies rolled up in a rice wrapper. Without Hoisin sauce it would taste like rice paper.

For the main courses we had Xiaoxing Pork Belly, grilled marlin and a green salad with scallops and pomelo . The salad was very good, the tangy pomelo blending well with the grilled scallops. The grilled marlin was fresh and done just right. The pork belly was excellent, sweet, tender and with just enough sinful fat to give it that “melt-in-your-mouth” flavor. Portions are not very generous but not too small as would make you feel cheated.

Dinner for 2-3 persons (without wine or liquor) would be P2,500 (U.S. $ 50), including tax and service charge. Service was attentive as there were few diners at 7:00 p.m. For dessert, we had Carrot cake which was super-moist and not too sweet. M Cafe is worth a try after a trek through the museum.
