What an early Easter Treat from Krispy Kreme Doughnuts. This morning I received a letter and a dozen egg shaped doughnuts from Blooey, the PR person behind Krispy Kreme. The letter said that “We’d like to give you a first bite of these doughnuts that come in five designs and two flavors— chocolate and cream cheese”. Yum ! two of my favorite flavors. Lauren was at home that time so she was the only one who got her fill of an early Easter treat

Today, March 19…my two girls , two of their friends and myself ate a sumptuous breakfast at the Katipunan branch of Max Restaurant. Thanks to Blooey Singson , PR Consultant for Max Restaurant, I got 5 free one day gift passes for my family. I thought L would never wake up for breakfast but she did. Too bad because I already told her sister M that I had extra passes for her friends. The thing is I didn’t have an extra pass for my husband. Oh well. A great breakfast on a Monday for a hectic week ahead . We were greeted at the door by an enthusiastic floor manager who treated us like royalty. I felt so important. hehe. I forgot to bring my digital camera to take photos so I ended up using my nokia N70 camera.
L and I ordered the classic Tapa Meal.
I read from the press release that the classic Tapa Meal is the 60-year old heirloom recipe of Max’s founder Nanay Ruby Trota consists of tender beef slices marinated in tapa seasoning with zesty hint of pineapple and served with rice, two fried eggs and brewed coffee. L enjoyed her Tapa meal but got disappointed that there were no coffee refills. The coffee was excellent. Max’s specially brewed coffee from Indonesian Arabica and Robusta beans needs a second cup. Cost of the Tapa Meal is 155 pesos.

Cathy’s husband gave me 10 boxes of Nestea Lemon Green Tea. Nestea is a brand of BPW (Beverage Partners Worldwide), a joint venture between The Coca-Cola Company and Nestle. I found out that the green tea used to make Nestea Green iced teas has antioxidant properties which are associated with good health. I wished they had a sugar free version though.

Readers have been telling me that the Ilocos Empanada at Katipunan Avenue is better than the Ilocano Empanada at Tiendesitas. I thought of checking it out to see for myself.
An Ilocos Empanada costs 40 pesos each which is slightly more expensive than the Tiendesitas version .
My verdict:

Over at the Sunday Organic Market , a stall sells vegetarian “veggie” lumpia and ubod lumpia. Looking at the process, it is actually Chinese Lumpia. For only 40 pesos, one can choose a mix of both vegetarian and ubod lumpia. I chose a mix of the two. It’s just the way Chinese Lumpia should be with lots of vegetables and ground peanuts as they sell it in Binondo.

Aside from the Saturday Market at Salcedo Village Park, there is a Sunday Organic Market along the parking lot of Paseo de Magallanes , South Superhighway. It started last February 25, 2007. Though not as many stalls as the Salcedo Community Food Market, there were pretty good number of stalls.
Seen at the market are smoked ham, vegetarian lumpia, suman, laing, cakes, breads, Angus steak, Cebu Lechon, fish, vegetables, meats, shawarma, plants, herbs, dried fish and lots more. Just view more photos of the Sunday Organic Market so you will have an idea what to buy at the market.
