ilocos empanada
Readers have been telling me that the Ilocos Empanada at Katipunan Avenue is better than the Ilocano Empanada at Tiendesitas. I thought of checking it out to see for myself.

An Ilocos Empanada costs 40 pesos each which is slightly more expensive than the Tiendesitas version .

My verdict:

Ilocos Empanada- I like the thick crust though but I don’t like the mongo sprouts.

Ilocano Empanada- Still my first choice. I like that there is more green papaya.

The Ilocos Empanada along Katipunan may just be the closest one to the original. I haven’t tried the one at Tiendesitas but the stall in Market! Market! is a sorry representation of the real Ilocos empanada.

I believe that Little Pio’s Shawarma Located at 92 New York st., Cubao QC (at the back of Stella Maris) will try to duplicate the ilocos empanada. Hope that it will taste good. Owner doesn’t wan to do it unless already perfected.
