The premium doughnut wars just got hotter with the entry of Napoleon Donuts, which is set to conquer the donut world like, well, Napoleon. The brainchild of opthalmologist Napoleon Delos Reyes, these babies are the fluffiest, meltingest-in-your-mouth donuts I’ve had in awhile. I chanced upon the good doc at his Tiendesitas outlet one hot Sunday afternoon, after doing some grocery shopping at the SM Hypermart.Located at the new building at the side of SM, the smallish cafe-style place is only his second outlet, after his first at the Medical City.

My favorite is the Creme Cheese donut, perfect with a cup of Lavazza coffee. I took a dozen home to introduce this new treat to the family and they loved it. Not for diabetics though, as the sugar content might just put the unwary into a coma. Dr. Napoleon promised to come up with a lite, sugar-free version soon. Worth a visit if you’re in the Tiendesitas area. Donuts are P24.00 per piece, which is reduced to P23.00 each if you buy a dozen.
