Banapple is a small restaurant along Katipunan Avenue near Libis. Marielle presumed that they would sell Banoffee Pie. She’s been dying to bake the pie for some time now. She just needed to taste other Banoffee Pie versions. Starbucks offers Banoffee Pie but it’s just too sweet and expensive at 120 pesos a slice.

Banoffee Pie’s origin is claimed by Ian Dowding and Nigel Mackenzie of The Hungry Monk restaurant in Jevington, East Sussex. They claim to have invented the pie in 1972, and the restaurant’s exterior bears a blue plaque to that effect. The dish, with various stories of its source, spread, and in 1994 a number of supermarkets began selling it as an American pie, leading Dowding and Mackenzie to offer a £10,000 prize to anyone who could disprove their claim.

The Banoffee Pie at Banapple cost only 65 pesos. My daughter and I tasted it. Now I don’t know what was wrong with this batch. The first bite I took had some toffee in it. After the second serving, it just tasted like a banana pie. No toffee. The crust was delicious though.

I think I will just innovate existing Banoffee Pie to get the taste I want.

I could start with this Video on how to make Banoffee Pie which entails heating the condensed milk can for 2 hours only. The original recipe of Banoffee Pie says to immerse 1 large tin of condensed milk in boiling water, and boil for five hours. Wow 5 hours is just so long. It reminds me of the cooking time for pastillas

I’ll let you know how my banoffee pie recipe turns out.

Yum. I’ve tried this one at Banapple in katipunan and it was divine. Much better than the Starbucks or Red Ribbon version IMO. Keep us posted on your very own banoffee pie. I’m sure it’ll turn out perfect :)
