Chowking Halo Halo

Wednesday Apr 9, 2008

The fires of hell don’t have anything on a mid-summer day in the Philippines. Halo-halo is a blessing to anyone suffering from the headache-inducing heat of the summer, but who wants to go outdoors and walk under the glare of the sun to get one?

A few days ago, I discovered a place that delivers one of the most refreshing halo-halo’s I’ve ever had to your doorstep. And this place is no other than Chinese fast food chain Chowking. I could eat nothing but Chowking’s halo halo all summer and I was beyond happy when I found out that I can get it without having to step out of the house. My biggest worry was that the halo-halo might be in a messy, shabby state by the time I get it. What with the heat, I don’t expect an ice cube to last more than five minutes. But it looks like I didn’t have to worry because when I dug into the paper cup, I saw that the halo-halo’s crushed ice looked as if it had just left the freezer. The evaporated milk is also placed in a separate, spill-proof container so you don’t need to worry about opening the plastic bag to find it spilled everywhere.
