The green landscape just took my breath away as we drove along the countryside enroute to our home in Sta. Rosa, Laguna. We planned to move in 2000 but due to my son’s death, we decided to stick it out in Makati until the two girls reached their college years. During those days, we knew that south of Manila held a lot of exciting possibilities. Even before we bought our first home in Sta. Rosa, Laguna, we already purchased a membership at the Tagaytay Highlands for our children to enjoy. It’s been years since I last visited Tagaytay and Cavite. I sure got lazy to travel the past few years especially with the girls all grown up and not too enthusiastic to travel with their parents.

Fortunately Community Innovations Verdana initiated a Verdana Gateway Tour: Secrets of the South, a day-long trip of the finest destinations the vibrant area has to offer. The Verdana Gateway Tour just affirmed my belief that the food & travel destinations make living in the heart of the South both stimulating and relaxing.

In the next few days, I will bring you to the Secrets of the South but let me show you a brief preview.

Ilog Maria (View Photos of Ilog Maria)

The Ilog Maria flows from seven natural springs within the Magsaysay Family’s farm in the highlands of Silang, Cavite. Silang- - Cavite’s largest town is renowned as Manila’s source of fresh fruits and excellent coffee.

The epicurean journey begins with lunch at Bawai’s, an authentic Vietnamese restaurant in Silang, Cavite, that serves a healthy mix of traditional and fusion cooking suited to the Filipino palate.

Yoki’s Treasure in Indang, Cavite is ideal for those whose way of loosening up is by artistic endeavors. The artifact museum’s 30-foot giant Buddhas and life-size mammal replicas exude a vibe of creativity and craftsmanship.

T-House (View Photos of T-House)

The T-House is a soothing Tagaytay retreat for those seeking escape from hectic city living. The peaceful ambiance of T-House enhance the flavors of Filipino delicacies like puto, kutchinta and dinuguan that reflect the culinary heritage of the South.

Kanin Club (View Photos of Kanin Club)

The Pride of Paseo de Sta. Rosa. Their best seller is the Crispy Dinuguan and the Kanin’s Club Turon.

These are just but a few of the Secrets of the South. I’ll blog more about each of these food and travel destinations in the following days.

One thing I am sure of. It’s a good thing I bought our country home in the South. The Verdana Gateway Tour is a testament to how the strategic location of Verdana has become one of its crowning glories. Imagine this. The real estate development of Verdana and even Nuvali brings easy access to fine dining and leisure destinations, yet comfortably close to commercial centers, education institutions and the future nexus of business centers.

These advantages together with a community conducive to family and community bonding make Verdana truly deserving of the title: Ayala’s Gateway to the Fine Southern Lifestyle.

One of the best food tours ever!
