Rice, as we all know, is a staple in Filipino cuisine and until Kanin Club at Paseo de Sta. Rosa, Laguna, I haven’t encountered a restaurant whose main focus is rice and the many different ways you can cook it. Sure, there are those fast food kiosks that serve all sorts of rice dishes, but going to those places is an eat-and-run affair; they don’t offer the same honey, restaurant atmosphere Kanin Club has.

Kanin Club has an insane variety of rice dishes - tinapa rice, aligue (crab fat) rice, and loaded fried rice (very similar to yang chow fried rice, with Chinese sausage and crab). Their best-selling dish, however, is good old-fashioned dinuguan (bloody pork stew) with a twist: the pork is fried to a crisp before it gets smothered in blood sauce. Indescribably delicious, but definitely not for people with cholesterol problems.

Finally, don’t miss out on their unique dessert - Turon KC ala Mode. The turon is stuffed with macapuno, ube, bananas, and monggo beans (think halo-halo in turon form), then fried and covered in caramel before getting topped off by a scoop of ice cream.
Kanin Club is located at Paseo de Sta. Rosa, Sta Rosa, Laguna and is open from 11 am to 2 pm and 5:30 pm to 9:30 pm. It’s best to be there early because the place fills up fast!
