Hydrophonic Lettuce at Yoki

Friday May 16, 2008

Besides huge statues of Buddah and other Balinese curiosities, Yoki’s Treasures also has the most unusual lettuce farm in the vicinity. They grow hydrophonic lettuce, a method that makes use of coco coir and cooked rice hull as a lettuce bed instead of good old fashioned soil.

Chateau Hestia Garden Restaurant in Tagaytay

Wednesday May 14, 2008

chatea hestia

If you’re in the Tagaytay area and are in the mood for a long, leisurely lunch in a quiet garden restaurant, drop by Chateau Hestia. What I like about this restaurant is that it doesn’t feel like a restaurant. Once you’re inside, you get the sense that you’re in your own home, except your home just grew a lush garden and there’s delicious, authentic European cuisine on the table in front of you.

Bawai’s Vietnamese Kusina in Tagaytay

Tuesday May 13, 2008

bawai

To me, Vietnamese food is probably the most refreshing kind of cuisine - it satisfies your hunger but it never feels heavy inside your stomach. I’m also a big lover of soup, and pho (noodle soup) is something I always look forward to whenever I eat Vietnamese.

Virgin Honey From Ilog Maria HoneyBee Farm

Monday May 12, 2008

I’ve always viewed honey as a baking ingredient or kitchen condiment, and it never occurred to me that this sticky, amber-yellow substance would have many uses beyond food. In fact, real honey contains medicinal and healing properties for a whole range of medical conditions, from athlete’s foot to liver problems.

In Silang, Cavite is a honey farm that produces not just extra virgin honey, but a wide range of honey-based products for all sorts of ailments. As part of the Verdana Gateway Tour, we were lucky to be taken around the facilities of Ilog Maria Honeybee Farms and have front-row seats to their honey production process and see the measures they take to ensure that they come up with nothing less than unfiltered, unprocessed, and unadulterated honey.

Verdana Gateway Tour: Secrets of the South of Manila

Sunday May 11, 2008

The green landscape just took my breath away as we drove along the countryside enroute to our home in Sta. Rosa, Laguna. We planned to move in 2000 but due to my son’s death, we decided to stick it out in Makati until the two girls reached their college years. During those days, we knew that south of Manila held a lot of exciting possibilities. Even before we bought our first home in Sta. Rosa, Laguna, we already purchased a membership at the Tagaytay Highlands for our children to enjoy. It’s been years since I last visited Tagaytay and Cavite. I sure got lazy to travel the past few years especially with the girls all grown up and not too enthusiastic to travel with their parents.

Fortunately Community Innovations Verdana initiated a Verdana Gateway Tour: Secrets of the South, a day-long trip of the finest destinations the vibrant area has to offer. The Verdana Gateway Tour just affirmed my belief that the food & travel destinations make living in the heart of the South both stimulating and relaxing.

In the next few days, I will bring you to the Secrets of the South but let me show you a brief preview.

Spot.ph Users and Bloggers

Thursday May 8, 2008

During the last Spot.Ph Bloggers Food Tour, I was curious why they invited bloggers to this Food Tour. I want to know the purpose of the tour. Most of all, I was curious about spot.ph

I asked the marshall of our group for the Serendra/Bonifacio High Street restaurants. From what I gathered, spot.ph is user generated content where one makes reviews of restaurants and other places. Then I added, “but bloggers already write reviews in their respective blogs. What makes spot.ph different?”

Oh my, the marshall’s answer annoyed me. She said something along the lines that “bloggers are not fair…” and spot.ph will be a better site for reviews than blogs. I said “excuse me? I am a blogger and I don’t know many bloggers who just rant and rant about a restaurant”. Oh but she refused to listen to me and started telling me about this blogger who kept complaining about the food. I left the marshall because I could not stand her low opinion on bloggers.

What a snobbish reply!
