Last week, my mom’s cousin from the US came to the Philippines and saw her for the first time in over ten years. Since Filipinos love to mark family occasions with food, we all went out for dinner at Kamayan Restaurant where we can stuff ourselves silly with a rich buffet of Filipino, European, and Japanese food at only Php 595 per person.

Our Filipino-American relatives immediately made a beeline for the Kamayan section (Filipino food) of the buffet and didn’t touch anything else. They say that they don’t get this much seafood in Arizona and that there aren’t any Filipino buffets in the United States at all. I really don’t think they need to go to restaurants to enjoy Filipino cuisine though, as they’re from Pampanga – and you know how people from Pampanga make the best Filipino food.

The sushi bar at Kamayan was absolutely heavenly. Imagine a whole line of different kinds of sushi and maki that you can eat until you’re absolutely stuffed!

Enjoying the food, the company, and the conversation.

While we were eating, we were serendaded with Filipino songs and popular songs by blind musicians.

My mom, my mom’s cousins, and my aunt look very satisfied after that very filling meal we all just had.

I thought it’s kamayan style. I wonder why there are utensils on the table.

Originally the concept was to eat with your hands and if one chose to eat with utensils, one had to request for it. Through the years, the customers got tired of it.

Sadly we don’t have buffets like that here in N.C. either. :( I would pig out on the seafood too! :D

    That’s like sushi heaven!

“In my recent trip to Clark Freeport, I chanced upon an amazing restaurant inside Mimosa. It’s just past the Holiday Inn. It was better than the high-end restaurants in 5-star hotels in Manila! I think the name is YATS Restaurant. It is not that expensive but the food is great and they have an incredible wine cellar too.”

“I have to share this with you – the lamb rack at YATS Restaurant is out of this world. Aside from the fact the lamb is cooked to perfection, the sidings are even more exciting. This is real fine-dining stuff, best I have seen in this country, and second to none that I have seen in other cities including Singapore and Tokyo.”
