Part of the Carnation Family Food trip in cooperation with Appetite Magazine was the Grand Handaan at the Burnham Park held July 26 at around 1:00PM. Despite the rainy and chilly weather, the Grand Handaan still pushed through. Instead on the grassy park, the booths were moved to the Burnham Park stage.

Aside from the food bloggers and writers of various publications , 10-Baguio based winning families via a radio promotion and the Baguio society people also took part of these festivities.

I like the idea of food exhibits where the various delicacies or dishes can be sampled.

I was just so full from the scrumptious lunch prepared by Chef Billy King at the Camp John Hay Manor that I couldn’t take part of this “Grand Handaan”. I just watched the families as they enjoyed the feast. They managed to sample dished from Vigan, La Union, Ilocos Norte, Ilocs Sur, Pangasinan, Benguet, Pampanga and Bulcan.
Each province had a booth which showcased their native dishes. Here is a sampling.
Pangasinan

Featuring Tupig

Ilocos Sur

Featuring Empanada

Ilocos Norte

Featuring Pinakdakan and Papaitan

Vigan

Featuring the Pulpog/Tinuno

And Pinakbet with Bagnet

Pampanga

Featuring Sisig

Benguet

Featuring Embotido special, Baguio Salad with Honey Mustard & Vinagrette Sauce

Embutido

Baguio Salad
With Alastrom

Bulacan

Featuring Palitaw

Ube

Biko

Suman, polvoron and pastillas

Hosting the Grand Handaan was K-Lite radio station very own DJ Hilary. Behind Dine and myself are local bands called the PowerPuff Corn and Amsky as they provided live music as the guests ate their hearts’ galore.

The two-hour Grand Handaan was opened to the public and served as the Family Food Trip’s 2008 big finale.

Since I couldn’t eat anymore during the Grand Handaan, I packed some suman, Tupid, Biko and Bulcan sweets in the Appetite bag.

It’s just too bad that my own family was not with me in the Food Trip but a little pasalubong surely brought smiles when I got home that night.
