Last night’s Philippine Blog Awards was a total blast, for more reasons than one. I mean it’s always great to spend time with friends, but what makes being with friends even better is when the bonding happens over lots and lots of good food. I arrived at the Blog Awards with an empty stomach and was really happy when I saw a long buffet table laden with all sorts of goodies from Josiah’s Catering.

Last night’s menu consisted of the following dishes:

Mexican Nachos
Pork Riblets in Phylio Cups
Fick Sticks with Spicy Garlic Sauce
Caesar Salad Wrap
Penne Bolognese
Cheese Fountain with julienne vegetables, nachos and bread sticks

Fruit Pavlova
Fruit Crepe
Assorted Pastries
Free flowing iced tea, soft drinks, and fruit punch

My friends and I attacked the nachos, caesar salad wrap, fish sticks, and the bolognese first. The nachos came with ground beef and salsa with a thick tomato base, which I loved. I’m not a very big fan of salsa that’s only made up of chopped tomatoes and onions; I want mine to have a little sauce!

I don’t normally eat fish either but the fish sticks were excellent, even without the garlic sauce. Of course, it tastes better seasoned with the sauce! The Caesar salad wrap had fish in it, I think; I would have liked it better if it had been chicken instead, but my friends seemed to enjoy this one the most. The penne too was all right, but I wish they had Parmesan cheese at hand.

We only saw the cheese fountain as we were about to attack the dessert table, but I managed to grab a bread stick and try it out. It was absolutely delicious, and I wish I had thought of putting some melted cheese onto my nachos and salsa earlier. I was only able to try out two of the desserts: the fruit crepe and the meringue. The mango in the fruit crepe was a little sour but otherwise it was pretty good. I loved the meringue though (I love meringue to begin with) and I think I had about three of those until my sugar fix was satisfied.

All in all it was a great event, and I’m hoping that the food at next year’s Philippine Blog Awards will be just as spectacular!
