I’m one of those people who is pretty much fueled by caffeine. I must have a cup of coffee in the morning, or else I’m a zombie until I get my caffeine fix. When I write papers or do every reading, I need coffee even more to keep my mind alert and operating at top speed. I’m not particularly picky when it comes to my coffee but I do admit that I prefer brewed coffee over the instant variety. Instant coffee tastes horrible to me and the three-in-one packs usually have too much sugar, too much cream, or both. I feel as if there’s never enough coffee in one sachet and I usually have to add a teaspoon of instant coffee with it, or mix two sachets in one cup.

When I was buying cigarettes at Ministop, I happened to notice a new variety of instant coffee flavors from Great Taste called Coffee Desserts. I was instantly drawn to the Mocha Mint one because I’m a sucker for anything minty combined with chocolate or coffee. I grabbed a sachet and tried it out at school and as far as instant coffee goes, Great Taste Mocha Mint is the best. True, it doesn’t have as much coffee as I’d like – it takes about two cups for the caffeine to kick in. But the minty flavor is wonderful – not too light, not too overwhelming – and the overall coffee mix isn’t toothachingly sweet like most instant coffee mixes.

The next two weeks are going to be hell as I stay up late cramming all my final requirements like any responsible, hardworking MA student. And to keep myself awake, I actually bought two boxes of Mocha Mint, which I shall be keeping in my room so that nobody steals any sachets. (And by “nobody” I mean my sister, who’ll probably be staying up cramming stuff too.)

hi, have you tried the black forest variety? i liked that one. i haven’t tried the mocha mint. i will one of these days. there’s another flavor – valencia something, i forgot the name but it has a hint of orange in it…. ummm, definitely a welcome twist in the instant coffee category!
