Summer signals the start of Farmers’ Market season here in Missouri. An essential part of Missouri’s agricultural community, various Farmers’ Markets are set up in each city and town to provide outlets for Missouri farmers to sell their homegrown produce to consumers all over the state.

The Farmers’ Market my brother took me to was located in front of city hall at a rural Missouri town.

Farmers’ Markets are usually open from May til October.

It was explained to me that each Farmers’ Market enhances the local economy and makes a significant impact on the local food system.

These flowers remind me a lot of the weekend markets back in the Philippines.

What makes it strikingly different is that we never see any pumpkins back home!

The Farmers’ Market is a great place to find tomatoes, potatoes, berries, green beans, and many other fresh, homegrown local products.

And since Halloween is only weeks away, pumpkins of different shapes and sizes are being sold.

These yummy red apples were sold to us at $1.00 a bag. The lady selling them said she shook her tree so that the apples would fall into her truck.
