While walking in downtown Kirksville with my sister-in-law, we came across a quaint countryside coffee shop called the Washington Street Java Company. I was instantly reminded of my daughters back home, who prefer going to coffee shops to study or do their papers than stay at home…apparently their bedrooms are too relaxing to do serious work.

The Washington Street Java Company is famous among the locals of Kirksville, Missouri for their homemade bread, specialty coffees, as well as their lunch and dinner menu.

I love the country theme of the interiors; it reminds me more of a pancake-type restaurant than a coffee shop.

They also offer free wi-fi to their customers.

The Washington Street Java Company House Blend was created exclusively for the coffee shop. The coffee blend features the well rounded sweetness of Panama bouguette region. The light and lively “snap” of South American coffee is smoothed down by the exquisite velvety richness of their favorite Indonesian. This flavorful, balanced coffee is roasted weekly to maintain its freshness.

Washington Street Java Company is also looking for musicians to play Friday and Saturday nights. If you live around the Kirksville area and have a band, you might want to drop by and see if you can get a booking.
