Marcello’s Pizza at Castro Street, San Francisco

marcello's pizza at the castro

On Friday night, the Castro Theater held a classic horror film festival featuring back-to-back zombie flicks. My boyfriend got to the theater earlier than expected and since it was dinnertime and we were hungry, we looked for the nearest restaurant where we could grab something to eat. Across the Castro Theater was a small pizza place called Marcello’s, which a friend of mine highly recommended for their huge pizza slices and fairly affordable prices.

Maybe I just don’t know where to eat but it’s rare for me to find a place where I’d have a full meal for less than $5. I paid around $4 for a slice of pesto and mushroom pizza and I was definitely not disappointed when I was handed my slice. The thing was practically sliding off the paper plate!

And yes, it tasted just as good as it looks! Word to the wise: make sure you run to the restroom and check out your teeth right after eating! Pesto bits have a really nasty way of getting wedged in between teeth and you really don’t want that while you’re out on a date. Luckily for me, my boyfriend didn’t really care that I had some pesto stuck on mine for almost half the evening!
