Across my boyfriend’s apartment is an entire row of Asian restaurants, and on my first day there we had lunch at a Vietnamese place that specializes in pho (noodles).

When it comes to food, I can be very boring and unadventurous. I don’t really like taking a risk by ordering crazy things on the menu; I prefer sticking to the tried and tested. Whenever I go back to a restaurant a second or third time, I always end up ordering whatever I got the first time I was there. At Vietnamese pho places, I always order a bo kho – a slightly sweet beef stew cooked with tomato, lemongrass, and garnished with basil leaves.

My boyfriend is vegetarian and he likes eating at Asian restaurants because they have so many food options for him. On that day, he ordered a plate of crispy spring rolls.
