Avocado Cake From Lia’s Cakes in Season

Most bakeshops offer the usual fare of chocolate mousse, black forest, and other Western delicacies but recently, we came across a specialty cake shop that carries a unique hybrid of East and West. Lia’s Cakes in Season is probably the only bakeshop in the country that uses Filipino fruits as a central ingredient for Western-style cakes, or bakes Western cakes the Filipino way. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to buy a cake for ourselves to try out but we took pictures and we’re definitely coming back next time!

The avocado cake is the store’s specialty and is the secret recipe of the store’s proprietor. The recipe has been kept with her family for many generations and fortunately her mother, granted her permission to use it for her college thesis.

The puto-bum-bundt cake is your basic bundt cake, except it’s made out of rice flour – just like our favorite Christmas treat, the puto bumbong.
