Wendy’s Baconator

Wendy’s is one of those fast food chains that isn’t really known for anything, except maybe for being the only fast food restaurant with a salad bar. But after this month, I think the word “Wendy’s” will always signify the concept, “BACONATOR”. Now what in the world could a Baconator be?

This, my friends, is a Baconator – a Wendy’s burger containing two square-shaped 4 oz beef patties, two slices of cheese, six strips of bacon, ketchup, and mayonnaise. Everyone on my Plurk timeline has been talking about the Baconator and today, my friends and I finally got around to ordering some for dinner. What the people on my Plurk timeline failed to mention, however, is that an actual Wendy’s Baconator doesn’t look as classy nor as appetizing as the press release photos. Chomping down on a Baconator has been one of the most…interesting culinary experiences of my life.

An hour after calling the nearest Wendy’s, we finally got our Baconators wrapped in foil and placed inside a styrofoam box. There was so much grease from all that beef and bacon that the burger started to sag and look soggy from all that liquid fat. Not only that; the grease actually seeped through the foil and got on my fingers even before I was done unwrapping the burger. Notice how there isn’t a single lettuce leaf nor tomato slice on the list of ingredients. The Baconator is a whole slew of serious cardiovascular problems waiting to happen.

The first few bites of the Baconator were heavenly but then again, I didn’t eat anything for lunch. Anything will taste heavenly to someone with an empty stomach. After 1/4th of the burger had been obliterated, I could feel kidney stones beginning to form from all that salt; my pores too were already starting to clog up from all that grease.

To offset the saltiness of the deadly beef-bacon combination, my friend suggested adding a whole lot of ketchup in between patties. While the ketchup did help me forget that this burger is probably 50% sodium (the other 50% being saturated fat), the greasy feeling didn’t subside. By the time I was done with my burger, I felt about as sexy as an obese trailer park queen.

Perhaps I should have asked how much a Baconator costs before I ordered one, because I damn near had a heart attack when my friend said I owed him 220 pesos for the burger. I don’t entirely regret paying for it (with my money) because I was incredibly curious about what eating a Baconator would be like. Now I’m just hoping I won’t have to pay for it with my health or my (already distended) belly.

You can’t say for sure if you like something or not until you try it out for yourself, but having tried the Baconator, all I can say is that it wasn’t worth it. Sure, it made for a very filling meal, but I also felt like such a pig afterwards. And P220! That doesn’t even cover fries and a Coke. With that much money, you could get a meal made out of real food – you know, the kind that won’t make you feel like a tub of lard or require a stay at the hospital after finishing it.

LOL, not that the nutritionally poor lettuce or even a slice of tomato could have done anything remotely close to offsetting the salt, calories, cholesterol, and pure fat that that thing released into your poor body. Heh.

The ketchup (catsup, whatever) is also high in salt, and to top it off uses chemicals and usually is loaded with the dreaded high fructose corn syrup. That won’t do anything at all except make suicide sweeter. =)

I’m sure their gimmick is working to boost sales, but I don’t know how their food formulators can sleep at night, knowing their ghastly creation is contributing to an increase in clogged arteries and heart attacks everywhere.

Don’t you know that most food photography done for print media is fake and inedible?

I’ve found the Burger King Western Bacon Burger to be tastier.

I know I said I would not have a Baconator again for at least a month, now methinks I’ll up that resolve to at least a year. I had mine inside a Wendy’s and even if it probably took less than two minutes to wrap the burger and serve em, the foil wrapping already felt greasy. Been eating healthy since Sunday.

I had a Baconator the other day. I’ve always loved Wendy’s over other fast food burgers, but I think the Double Quarter Pounder wins this round.

Wendy’s sucks. I can’t remember the last time my family and I went there to eat. I prefer Burger King’s Whopper JR and McDonald’s Big and Tasty.

I think Baconator was made for “MEN” who likes to eat meat. It’s that thing called, “real Men eat meat”.
