I remember the days when Amici was still the cafeteria run by the Salesians of Don Bosco. My old high school had a lot of interactions with Don Bosco Mandaluyong and Makati, and we spent quite a bit of time eating ice cream at Amici back then. I didn’t realize that Amici went on a major expansion boom after they had been bought by the former owners of Red Ribbon, resulting in a drastic improvement on the menu and food quality.

After hearing Sunday mass, I went to Amici at Greenhills with the boyfriend and his family for his birthday dinner. Though I wasn’t able to take photos of our meal, I was able to document our dessert. I didn’t know that the gelato (that’s Italian for “ice cream”, you uncultured lout) served at Amici got rebranded into the gelateria Caramia, the dessert wing of the restaurant. I remember they only had around ten or so flavors back then. Today, the gelato at Caramia comes in 18 mouthwatering flavors: pistachio, sans rival, strawberry supreme, mango jubilee, straciatella (nutella), mint with chocolate, espresso, choco with nuts, blueberry supreme, nocciola, guianduia, mango classic, vanilla, ube, macapuno, pineapple, banana, and cioccolato.

A scoop of ice cream costs P50 while a tub goes for around P490. If I weren’t so full from dinner, I would have tried two flavors, but now it looks like I’ll have to go back when the weather becomes warmer!

If you add P10, you can have your ice cream served in a waffle cone or a waffle bowl. I only ordered a scoop of ice cream but wow, they’re really generous with the servings.

Caramia also carries gelato cakes in six flavors: banana blast, spumoni surprise, choco sans rival, merry berries, mango sans rival, and choco tartulo. Why didn’t I hear of this place before my birthday??
Amici and Caramia can be found at Greenhills, Tomas Morato, Don Bosco Makati, and SM Megamall Atrium.

Oooh, ube gelato!

This is where I’ve tried pistachio gelato for the first time. I’m not really fond of the nut, but they’re ice cream was simply delicious!
