About a month ago, a new tapas bar and Spanish restaurant called Tapella (tapas and paella) opened at the ground floor of Greenbelt 5. When the restaurant first opened its doors, the owners (same group who currently runs Gaudi) were unsure about how receptive people would be to yet another Spanish restaurant, especially at a time of economic hardship. To their surprise, customers kept coming back for their tapas – small portions of assorted appetizers – and their unique variants of the classic Spanish dish, paella.
Last night, the owners of Tapella celebrated their first month of business with a formal grand opening of the restaurant. My camera’s low battery prevented me from taking more pictures of the event, but suffice to say that the entire evening was a celebration of fine food, rich wine, music, and flamengco dance. Two buffet tables of tapas and paella were decked with the establishment’s best-selling dishes like pulpo (Galician octopus), croquetas, and picadillo paella (with assorted sausages and raisins). The bar kept dishing out glasses and glasses of table wine and sangria as guests and diners were entertained by Andalusian folk music, complete with talented guitarists, a singer, and flamengco dancers. The evening was truly a feast for the senses as there was no shortage of food, drink, and Spanish culture.
If you’re ever in the mood for Spanish cuisine, visit Tapella at the ground floor of Greenbelt 5. Try to visit between 6 – 9 pm on a Friday for their Wine Nights, where you can enjoy overflowing wine and tapas for only P600.
