Late Sunday morning, my dad woke me up and announced that we would be going out for lunch at Eastwood. I am by no means a morning person, but I was up on my feet and ready to leave in less than half an hour. Back in high school, my family and I used to eat out on Sundays for lunch or dinner, but we stopped the tradition when we found out how much we could save if we restricted restaurant fare to birthdays and special occasions. It was nice to be able to spend time with my family for no real reason, not to mention that I can’t remember the last time I had a free meal at a restaurant.

momo cafe

My dad’s first pick was Cyma but I never eat anything but “breakfast-y” food right after waking up, so we looked somewhere else. We eventually decided on MoMo Cafe at the new Eastwood mall because my sister was attracted to the interiors and they seemed to have a decent breakfast selection.

momo cafe 2

MoMo Cafe is the latest establishment by the guys behind M Cafe and Chelsea. It seems expensive by association but the prices at MoMo Cafe are in the P200-P300 range – decent for a restaurant with such a laid-back atmosphere, lots of natural light, and extensive food selections.

momo cafe coffee

First up: coffee, because I cannot start my day without a caffeine kick. My morning coffee doesn’t have to be anything fancy; in fact, I would have settled for plain brewed coffee at Cafe MoMo, but the simplest coffee I saw on the menu was this confection topped with lots of whipped cream and Chocnut (I can’t remember the name but it cost around P155). If I were in the mood for a dessert-type coffee, I would have probably loved this but I found it a little too sweet for my liking. Too much sugar, not enough coffee.

cafe momo bread

While we decided on our breakfast, we were kept supplied by bread sticks with a cheese pimiento dip. My sister and I decided on banana-nutella waffles but to our disappointment, the waiter informed us that all waffles were unavailable that morning.

cafe momo french toast

I wasn’t in the mood for pancakes so we decided on French toast with bacon and bananas, which my sister and I shared. There were two slices of French toast on our dish, and we were pleasantly surprised to find chocolate nutella sandwiched between them, so I guess we did get our nutella fix after all!

Cafe MoMo can be found at the ground floor of the Eastwood Mall and are open from 7 am til 1 am. At night, I’m told they serve excellent mojitos.
