mcdonalds choco raspberry layer

If not for the Internet, I wouldn’t have known that McDonald’s just released a new line of desserts. I tried finding the original, cleaner promotional poster I saw but it’s lost in Tumblr oblivion. If you look closely at the poster above, however, you can kind of make out the names of the new desserts: Icy Blue Float (Sprite and vanilla ice cream with blue food coloring), Oreo Hot Fudge Layered Twist, Oreo Coffee Fudge Layered Twist, and Choco Raspberry Layered Twist. Before going on our date last night, I insisted that my boyfriend and I pass by the nearest McDonald’s to try out the new desserts. In my opinion, nothing beats the chocolate-berry dessert combination and I was dying to find out if the Choco Raspberry Layered Twist tastes just as good as I think it will.

I skipped off happily with my chosen dessert and wasted no time trying to break the chocolate shell that covered the sundae. God bless whoever invented chocolate fudge shells; I cannot imagine another add-on that can make ice cream even more awesome than this. Except maybe for marshmallows. When I finally broke the shell open, I realized it would take a while for me to eat through the ice cream to get to the raspberry layer. But I eventually reached the raspberry center and it was absolutely amazing. The sundae reminds me of the mocha raspberry coffee from Seattle’s Best Coffee, except it’s cold and there’s vanilla ice cream (incidentally, mocha raspberry coffee is the only thing my boyfriend orders at SBC too – we have something in common yay). My only complaint is that there should have been more raspberry syrup and more chocolate fudge on top, but I suppose you can get the guy at the counter to add more if you ask nicely.

My boyfriend got the Oreo Coffee Fudge Layered Twist. When mixed together, the sundae tastes like a mudslide, which I enjoyed – but not as much as the Choco Raspberry Layered Twist.

The new sundaes at McDonald’s cost P29. I’m not sure if they’re here to stay or if they’ll only be around for the holidays, but I’m hoping for the former.

McDonald’s coffee is pretty gross. Starbucks FTW!
