The Pinoy Food Photo Blog combines my family's love for eating and amateur photography.
Photography is also a hobby which I enjoy but am still learning. read more?
Last Saturday, I holed up with girlfriends at Bizu, Greenbelt for an evening of good food, fancy cakes, and drinks. I haven’t been to Bizu in ages, and I was surprised to see how pretty it was inside. I love the high ceiling and the lilac and white interior – this color scheme would look so lovely in a bedroom.
While I believe that your significant other should be sweet and romantic all-year-round, it is kinda nice to receive something extra on Valentine’s Day – especially with all the special edition Valentine’s Day stuff stores are coming up with! I don’t know about you, but I’d take chocolate and cake over flowers any day, especially if they’re as delightful as these new delicacies from Red Ribbon.
It would be a real travesty to deny your love a cake as decadent as the new Red Ribbon Chocolate Heaven. The top layer is made of rich chocolate truffle, which rests on a second layer of super moist chocolate cake. Shaved chocolate curls are scattered across the top.
After our filling Thai dinner at Oody’s, my boyfriend and I wandered off to find dessert. We’re both huge dessert fiends who like our post-dinner sweets gooey, rich, and chocolatey. Although it’s normally not difficult for us to find a cozy coffee shop to settle down and stuff ourselves silly, we did have a fairly heavy dinner and could only eat a light-ish dessert. It took a little bit of walking around Greenbelt for inspiration to strike – the last time we were here, we passed by the relocated Max Brenner on our way to a movie. I remember telling Marco how relieved I was to know that Max Brenner hadn’t closed down as I feared (in its old location is a Hermes store), and that we must have dessert there at our next date. Guess where we ended up going?
The best dates I’ve ever had with my boyfriend are those that happen spontaneously, like the one we had last Friday. As I was finishing work, I realized I hadn’t eaten anything after my late brunch. I was in the mood for a long, leisurely dinner so I asked Marco if he was free tonight, and if he minded taking me to that fancy restaurant he’s been raving about if he had no plans. The fancy restaurant is called Katre, a Mediterranean-fusion restaurant just off Tomas Morato. I’m not one for snooty, elitist places, but Katre is nothing like that at all; I suppose we only refer to it as “fancy” because the food presentation is a work of art, and because each dish costs about a hundred or two more than what we normally pay for at other restaurants. But if you really must spend your money somewhere nice, go to Katre. Unlike other fancy restaurants, which make up for meager portions with flavor, Katre doesn’t cheat you out of the portions you deserve. The serving size, quality of the food, and quiet ambiance is well worth what you’re paying for.
You know what my favorite part about Christmas is? The pastries. I love it when pastries from friends and relatives start arriving by the boxful – except if the box contains fruitcake, which I had too much of in my childhood. I’m sure a lot of people feel the same way about fruitcake and the standard sweets given during the holidays; although the gesture is much appreciated, it’d be nice to taste something different too. So if you’re looking for a new kind of pastry to give away to friends this holiday season, try DeliFrance’s new line of Christmas Bars. Designed to satisfy the sweet tooth of even the pickiest dessert lovers, DeliFrance’s Christmas Bars have a diversity of flavors, tastes, and textures that you’ll definitely want to sample.
