Custom 18th Birthday Cakes

It used to be that 18th birthday cakes were made out of frilly white icing and delicate flowers, but this isn’t the 1800′s anymore. Novelty cakes add a creative, funky twist to your ordinary birthday cake and turns it into something more than just an edible centerpiece. I daresay that they’re a work of art.

For my 18th birthday I had my cake custom made at Claycakes and I helped Karla Magbanua, the owner and designer, design the cake. When coming up with a cake design for your debut, make sure that it conforms to the overall theme of your party so that it functions as a decoration on its own. I wanted a medieval theme for my debut so I requested that my cake have a castle tower on the third tier, with a figure of me peeking out the window. Since only the first layer of the cake is edible, I asked that little cupcakes be made for the guests to eat. The cake was made out of chocolate and came with a scrumptious caramel sauce. Unfortunately I didn’t get to eat much of the cake since I was too busy socializing with guests to eat anything.
