Chatime Tea Makes Me Dance with Delight

Milk tea is the new frozen yogurt, and I’m certainly not complaining. The sweet, creamy flavor of milk tea never fails to tickle my taste buds, and drinking it is never boring because it comes in so many flavors. It also beats coffee in terms of caffeine because of its slow release; unlike coffee, which makes me crash after an hour, tea makes me productive and alert for a longer period of time. Though a nearby Serenitea takes care of my milk tea cravings, I finally got to try another place called Chatime. And now I totally understand what everyone is raving about.

I first heard of Chatime on Twitter but hadn’t had the chance to visit one until I passed by their small booth at Landmark last Friday. I wasn’t really in the mood for tea at the moment but for once, there wasn’t a mile-long line of customers waiting for their turn! When else will I get this opportunity?

Chatime teas are priced lower than Serenitea, with nothing over P100 on the menu. However, the teas don’t come with toppings; you’ll have to add P15 for pearls, jelly, pudding, red beans, or aloe vera. It was difficult to decide what flavor to get when everything looked so tempting, but I ended up choosing the Pearl Milk Tea so I wouldn’t have to pay an extra P15. Yeah, I’m a cheapskate.

The tea is prepared right before your eyes, guaranteeing a fresh brew in every cup.

So how does it compare to Serenitea? In terms of taste, both are equally as good, but Chatime wins this one because of the price and quality of the pearls. I love pearls in my milk tea but Serenitea’s are nothing to write home about; in fact, they’re too bland and sticky for my liking. Chatime’s pearls are larger, chewier, and more flavorful; it’s such a delight to chew on a mouthful of their pearls with the milk tea flavor still lingering on my tongue. And if you stick to the Pearl Milk Tea flavor, Chatime tea costs only P90 for a large glass, versus Serenitea’s P105. I still love how Hokkaido milk tea tastes like, but I wouldn’t say no to a Chatime pearl milk tea if I could buy it without going out of my way.
Chatime can be found at the following branches. Such awkward locations!
Landmark Mall, Ayala Center
Pioneer Center, 8006 Pioneer cor. United Sts. Pasig City
75 C. Nicanor Roxas St., Banawe
