Marco and I returned to Fish & Co because I had a serious craving for fish and chips that demanded to be satisfied. Normally, we go to Teriyaki Boy when I crave for fish and chips, but after a recent bad experience where it took 30 minutes for our food to arrive, we decided to avoid the place for a while (though they do have very good fish and chips). I’ve been told that fish and chips was the specialty of Fish & Co, and we decided to check it out and see if the best fish and chips in town really is as good as everyone says it is.
Our meal began with a carafe of apple green tea with grenadine and orange juice. We normally have house water with our meals to save money (Marco) and to avoid the liquid calories (me), but at just P80 for a pitcher we couldn’t resist it. Plus, it’s green tea. Can’t get any healthier than that, right? I know that most commercial green teas have more sugar than actual tea, but we could tell that this was the real thing because of its refreshingly fruity taste and the orange pulp settling in the bottom.

Last night, Fish & Co invited several bloggers over to try out a few new dishes on their menu. They wouldn’t tell us what they were at first, but I was hoping they would be serving some sort of new version of their bestselling fish and chips – which I haven’t tried yet. To be perfectly honest, fish is one of my least favorite foods because I don’t like how most fish dishes taste so slimy (malansa). Lately, however, I’ve been a little more adventurous about eating fish and developed a taste for Teriyaki Boy’s fish and chips. Their fish and chips dish is so tasty, it’s become a PMS craving and the only thing I order at “T-Boy”, as the conyos call it. I wouldn’t mind trying out the other fish and chips offerings of other restaurants, which was why I was particularly looking forward to this event.
Finally, we were served chips (with no fish) as the organizers gave us a little introduction about what we would be eating tonight. Aside from mouthwatering fish and chips, Fish & Co is also known to give huge servings that are good for two. However, the owners noticed that there are some people who want smaller servings because they don’t feel like sharing a dish or they want to dine by themselves. So they launched the new Just for Me Meals: five delectable fish, chicken, and beef dishes that will surely satisfy the solo diner. And the best part is that everyone got to try out all five of them!

Anyone who loves fish, shrimp, clams, and all the little critters of the sea has got to have at least one meal at Fish and Co. in their lives. This casual dining restaurant offers you all kinds of seafood from the seven seas of the world, served to you in the very pan where they were cooked! This practice is borrowed from the Mediterranean fishermen, who immediately cooked their catch in a pan and served them fresh from the sea to local villagers.
Among the bestsellers in Fish & Co are their baked mussels in garlic, seafood platter, and fish and chips. The fish and chips is especially excellent; the batter doesn’t overpower the flavor of the fish. They use only the finest ingredients, herbs, and spices for their dishes, which are served in generous portions. One bite is enough for you to be able to savor the delicious freshness of their catch.

If you’re wandering around in Trinoma and develop a sudden craving for oysters in the middle of your shopping, take a break and drop by Marina at the second floor of the restaurant area. This seafood restaurant is best known for their delicious oysters, both fresh and covered in melted cheese and garlic. Their cheese oysters are baked to perfection so that they’re not runny, nor are they completely dry. I’m not a very big fan of fresh oysters because they feel strangely gummy in my mouth and they also have this salty, fishy taste. But perhaps those who are partial to fresh oysters will enjoy the ones at Marina.

Chili crab is not actually a Filipino dish; it’s a Singaporean delicacy and in fact, the first time I ever tried it was when I was at Singapore. Heralded as Singapore’s unofficial national dish, chili crab is cooked in a thick tomato-chili sauce and served with Chinese buns and a nutcracker so you can break the crab’s thick shell. I’m not sure if there are any restaurants in the Philippines that serve Singaporean-style chili crab, but if I find one I’ll blog about it for sure. I’m totally craving for it right now. >_>
